Evergreen Care &

Shaping  – FAQ

What should I expect from the first shaping?

The first shaping is often about cleaning the plant and giving it direction. We establish a healthy structure first, then develop and refine the shape over time where needed.

How often should evergreens be shaped?

For most maintained evergreens, one main shaping per year is usually enough. More defined forms or faster-growing plants may occasionally need a light touch-up.

Can you reshape an overgrown evergreen?

Often, yes. However, many evergreens do not regrow well from old bare wood, so heavily overgrown plants may need to be corrected gradually rather than cut back aggressively.

Why do you clean the inside of the plant?

Dead foliage and congested growth accumulate inside dense evergreens. Cleaning reveals the branch structure and helps determine what should be kept, trained, trimmed or removed before shaping.

Can you make my evergreen smaller?

It depends on the species, condition and amount of healthy foliage. We reduce growth only where it can be done without unnecessarily creating bare areas or damaging the plant's structure.

How tall an evergreen can you work with?

We provide care and shaping for ornamental evergreens up to approximately 10 ft tall, where the plant can be safely accessed by hand from the ground or with a small step ladder. We do not provide climbing or high-access tree work.

Do you only create spirals and formal shapes?

No. Shaping can range from maintaining a clean, natural form to more distinctive ornamental shapes, including spirals. The approach is based on the plant and its place in the landscape.

Will the plant be finished after one visit?

Well-maintained evergreens can often be refined in one visit. Older or overgrown plants may need time. The first visit establishes health, structure and direction, with the shape improving through future growth and maintenance.
